With her career on the indomitable upswing, it’s no surprise that longtime standup comic-turned-successful Hollywood actress Kristen Schaal (“Flight of the Concords,” “Bob’s Burgers,” the voice of Mabel Pines in “Gravity Falls”) has opted to improve her residential circumstances. Late last year, the Colorado native sold her “starter” home in L.A.’s Los Feliz neighborhood for $1.9 million to a non-famous married couple.
But Schaal won’t even need to hire a moving van; records reveal the 43-year-old and her longtime husband, former “Daily Show” writer Rich Blomquist, have plunked down nearly $3.5 million for a brand-new house that’s essentially right up the street from their old place. Built-in 2020, the slick contemporary attracted a horde of bidders — Schaal ultimately paid more than $250,000 over the $3.2 million asking price.
The effusive listing boasts that the new owner of this “architectural modern” home with “endless views” will be “living large in Los Feliz.” That’s not an exaggeration, though, as the boxy structure is chicly styled; crammed into the 3,400 square feet of living space is nearly every luxury amenity available, including fireplaces hewn from imported stone, plus an open kitchen with quartzite countertops and designer Miele appliances.
While photos are relatively scant, it’s known that the gunmetal-grey house sits mostly below street level on a steep hillside lot. Out front, there’s a two-car attached garage and a relatively large front garden planted with fragrant jasmine, lavender, and rosemary. A double-height entryway leads into the sunny floorplan, which is defined by floor-to-ceiling walls of glass and wide-plank oak floors.
On the main level, a great room combines the kitchen, dining, living, and family rooms into one cohesive space, with easy access outback — where there’s a wooden deck and alfresco entertaining area, plus a negative-edge pool and spa. Views sweep over Glendale and Burbank, summiting at the San Gabriel mountains on the horizon.
The upper level holds three ensuite bedrooms, per the listing, including a master suite with its own sitting room. Also upstairs are a laundry room, a large private office/den, and more spectacular views.
